What makes a long hair eyebrow transplant different
In conventional eyebrow transplants, the harvested follicles are trimmed before they are placed, so the final shape and the direction of growth only reveal themselves over the following months. The long hair technique keeps the hair attached: grafts are taken with the full length of the hair intact and transplanted that way.
- A clear result on the day. The moment the procedure ends, you can see the form, the density and the way your new eyebrows sit.
- No shaving. Neither the donor area nor the eyebrow area is shaved, so there is nothing visible to explain while you heal.
- The natural exit angle. Eyebrow hairs leave the skin almost flat, at roughly 10 to 15 degrees. Because the grafts are placed long, the lie and curve of each hair can be set at exactly the right angle.
How an eyebrow transplant is performed
If no new brow hair has grown within two years of the loss, a transplant may be required. Fine, single-hair follicles are selected from a suitable donor area, usually the nape or behind the ear, because they best match the texture of eyebrow hair. They are then implanted with Choi pens (the DHI method), following the natural direction of brow growth.
Two things decide the outcome: establishing the correct brow line, and making sure the graft count actually matches the need, typically 150 to 400 grafts per brow. Beyond that, it is the surgeon's experience and eye that produce an artistic rather than merely filled result.
Shaping the brow
The design is a decision made together with your surgeon, planned around harmony with the rest of your features. Performed under local anaesthesia, the procedure can create the model you want, whether straight, thin, thick or arched, and the shape is agreed before anything begins.
Why brows thin and fall out
Unlike scalp hair, brow loss is rarely genetic. It usually follows skin disease, burns or trauma, and treatments such as chemotherapy can cause it. Follicles that are not adequately nourished may also stop producing, and frequent plucking from the same area damages them over time. Once brow loss has established itself, medication will generally not bring the hair back. An eyebrow transplant is also a common choice for people unhappy with microblading or a cosmetic tattoo who want permanent, real hair instead.
Choosing where to have it done
An eyebrow transplant is an aesthetic surgical procedure and must be carried out in proper clinical conditions. Check that the clinic is licensed, that hygiene standards are met and that experienced physicians are performing the work. Reviewing patient experiences and before-and-after photographs tells you a great deal about both the doctor and the clinic, and the quality of the devices used affects the result too.
How the day runs
- Design. Shape, arch height and tail length are drawn with you at the mirror and agreed before we begin.
- Extraction. Single-hair units are selected from the finest donor hair available and lifted with the long hair still attached.
- Implantation. Grafts are placed with Choi pens at near-flat angles, following the natural direction change across each section of the brow.
- Growth. You leave with the shape visible on the day. The transplanted hairs may shed temporarily in the following weeks, regrow from the third month, and settle into their final shape over the months that follow.
