An unshaven hair transplant is, as the name says, performed without shaving the top, sides or back of your hair. At Cyprus Hair Center in Nicosia, North Cyprus, it is carried out with the DHI technique and Choi implanter pens, so grafts are placed between your existing hairs and, once healed, there is no visible sign of the procedure. It is most often chosen by patients with longer hair and by those who cannot take visible time away from work.
How an unshaven DHI hair transplant is performed
Your hair and scalp characteristics are analysed first, and the approach that suits them is chosen. The hairline is then designed with you, and the donor and recipient areas are numbed with local anaesthesia.
Only a small, discreet window in the donor area at the back of the head is trimmed, and the longer hair above it covers it. Grafts are collected from that window and placed with the implanter pen into the thinning areas at the correct angles. The hair in the recipient area is not cut. Correct angle placement is what decides whether the result reads as natural.
DHI or FUE for an unshaven transplant
Both techniques are typically completed in a single session, and your assessment decides which one you are offered.
- DHI uses a fine-tipped medical pen. Follicles from the donor area are loaded into the pen and transferred into the thinning areas, and its main advantage is that collected follicles are implanted immediately, without waiting. It is our standard technique for unshaven work.
- FUE may be recommended when a larger area needs covering. With both techniques we extract and implant the maximum number of grafts your donor area safely allows in a single session.
Recovery without the tell-tale signs
Because your hair is not cut, it is not obvious from the outside that you have had a procedure, and you can carry on with work and social plans while the process completes. No separate channels are opened in the recipient area, so tissue trauma is minimal and redness and scabbing clear within 5 to 7 days.
The existing hair around the grafts is not harmed. New hair grows from the third month, and the full result settles by around 12 months.
